Hannes Schneider Meister Cup Event – March 8-10

NORTH CONWAY NH – Celebrate the 27th Hannes Schneider Meister Cup Race, honoring the life of the renowned Austrian skimeister whose pioneering ski teaching brought excitement and prosperity to North Conway and St. Anton, Austria and the world of skiing at large.

Hannes Schneider was a mountain soldier on the alpine front in World War I, and his son Herbert and several of his instructors served in the 10th Mountain division in World War II. The race pays tribute to several generations of America’s mountain troops, and features the color guard and mountain instructors of the Army Mountain Warfare School of Jericho, Vermont.

The Meister Cup is more than a race—it is a spectator event with an Opening Ceremony with Color Guard, vintage ski fashion show, awards ceremony, the music of the Bavarian Brothers Band and a Sunday morning screening of an award-winning ski history documentary film. Race it or watch it, the Meister Cup has something for everyone.

If you can turn around a few gates on intermediate terrain on alpine or telemark skis or a snowboard, you are invited to participate in the race…and win! The fastest male and female finishers in ten age classes take home unique awards, as do the fastest telemark, snowboard, and junior racers. Teams of five racers compete for the Meister Cup Trophy, with winners’ names engraved on the award which is on display in the New England Ski Museum.

Competition is intense at the highest level, but for most racers the event is a simple fun run down a gentle racecourse on a day of slopeside pageantry and social events. Past racers have ranged in age from 4 to 95.

The Carroll Reed Cup, awarded to the fastest team made up of racers from the ski resort industry, honors the ski business pioneer whose early Eastern Slope Ski School provided the basis for Hannes Schneider’s arrival in 1939.

Apart from the ski race, the Hannes Schneider Meister Cup features a full slate of weekend social activities including a welcome reception and buffet, the opening ceremony, a silent auction, the popular vintage skiwear show, the awards ceremony, and a ski history presentation. Whether you race it or watch it, the Meister Cup has something for everyone.

There are many ways to be involved! As a racer, spectator, patron, or sponsor. Please see below for more information about these!

Jackson NH Snow Sculpting Competition – January 6-28

JACKSON NH – This Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce event will be held at Great Glen Trails/Mt. Washington Auto Road again this year.  This fabulous location offers guests/visitors not only great cross country skiing, tubing, snow coach rides but creates an incredible background for the viewing of all our sculpting pieces.  Check back soon for lots more details as to all the fun that will go with this exciting new experience and venue.  This event may rotate venues as the years progress.

The event begins on Friday January 26th at noon with teams from all over the Northeastern part of the United States. The team will sculpt throughout the weekend and finish at noon on Sunday January 28th, 2024. Spectators are welcome to view the entire process but welcome to return on Sunday the 28th for the finished products. See first hand how our sculptors take 8 foot high by 4 foot round cylinder of compacted snow and create incredible art frozen in time.

Sculpting pieces usually remain available for viewing for at least a week after the event giving visitors ample time to get coveted photos. Please be aware that weather is a factor and we can not guarantee how long the snow sculptures will remain. The sculptures will be lit at night for an entirely different perspective. We anticipate at least 12 or more teams for 2024 and a spectacular show!  Check back often for more updates as this is our 23rd Anniversary of the event and we will be sure to celebrate it with some exciting enhancements.

snow moon

CRAWFORD NOTCH NH – The second full moon of 2024 — also known as the Snow Moon — will appear on Saturday, February 24, 2024 and we’ve decided to lead a moonlight snowshoe hike for this event. This moon is named the “Snow Moon” because in February it is usually colder across the Northern Hemisphere with snowfall in many countries. This also goes back to some Native American tribes who reportedly gave it this name due to the scarcity of food and difficult hunting conditions during this time of year.

  • When it is: Saturday, February 24th, 2024
  • Its times: 5:30PM – 9:00PM (approx)*
  • Where it is: Probably Mt Willard or Mt Avalon
